The art of telling your own story through images

The course is aimed at anyone studying, working or passionate about visual communication, from influencers to students and writing enthusiasts who wish to learn how to narrate a story without the use of the written word. The aim of the course is to learn the different techniques and strategies of image storytelling, with the final presentation of a project/story – obviously – told through icons.

At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance is issued upon attendance of at least 8 of the 10 scheduled lectures, for a possible recognition of 2 CFA.

What is an image? What are images?
We are exposed to unlimited images (memory, dreams, symbols, videos, art, etc.)
In graphic design, in visual communication, in advertising, in social networks, in audiovisuals we always combine the language of images with text, be it in voice or in the form of writing.
In this course, on the other hand, we want to understand how iconic language works by itself and explore its persuasive, seductive, informative, mystifying/truth-telling, emotional, intimidating, and saving power.
In the first four weeks of the course, after the lecture focused on visual culture in history and with a particular focus on the pictorial turn of the recent times, students will be asked to practise the different forms of writing through images.
Starting from the fifth meeting onwards, the workshop will have a merely practical and creative approach, being devoted to the preparation of the final project/assignment to be presented in the last lesson, about one’s own story told only through images without the use of the written word.
According to the class interests and projects, some external visits and activities could be planned.







Visual communication designer, former AIAP Lazio regional delegate. Articles published in “Progetto Grafico”, international graphic design magazine, in “Opificio”, monthly culture magazine IRI Edizioni, in AIAP ZINE, international design observatory and in “DisegnareCon”, magazine edited by the Department of Architecture of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna. His main graphic design works are published in the volume “Immagini per idee”, Skira editions, 2007. Designer and implementer of the social innovation project “Millepiani”, 200 coworking spaces in the Lazio Region.
Lecturer in visual communication design at RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts.
Currently consultant for political communication of MEPs. Curator of product communication for eFM.
