Rometti Prize, the call of the 2020 edition

The call for proposals for the 2020 edition of the Rometti Prize dedicated to ceramic design has been published. The aim of the project is twofold: on the one hand to confront students with the difficulties that can arise from the transition from idea to realization; on the other hand to offer an original contribution to art and Made in Italy.

Since 1927 the Rometti manufactory has been making artistic ceramics in Umbertide (Pg) and since the beginning of its activity it has availed itself of the fundamental collaboration of young artists such as Corrado Cagli, Dante Baldelli and Mario Di Giacomo who had the opportunity to experiment and innovate, creating masterpieces in total freedom of expression.

The competition is not only addressed to RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts students, but also to those who attend art and design academies all over the world. A dimension that makes the comparison even more engaging and dynamic.

Each competitor will have to realize only one project, with a free theme, that succeeds in combining the work of art with the design object, according to their own taste and inclinations. The projects, which must reach the secretariat by May 23rd 2020, will be evaluated by a jury of experts who will select at most the six best ones. The finalists will be entitled to a one-week internship where they will concretely realize their project. The students will enjoy free of charge, for the entire duration of the internship, their stay ( room and board) and local travel, as well as any travel organized by Rometti. Participation in the internship is mandatory. In fact, the renunciation precludes the student from having the right and the possibility to access the final prizes.

The first classified will be awarded a cash prize of 1000 euros, 600 to the second and 400 to the third. But what is more important is that all the creations made during the internship will be able to go into production, even with any changes previously agreed with the author. The prototypes will also be exhibited at the Rometti Museum in Umbertide.

With the institution of the Rometti Prize the ownership of the manufactory intends to confirm the centrality of collaboration with the new generations by developing new themes related to art-design.
